A collection of materials which deals with General McDermott's tenure as a member of the USAFA faculty from its establishment in 1954, his appointment as the first permanent professor, and then his appointment as the first permanent Dean of USAFA in 1959. McDermott remained Dean until his retirement in 1968. Other items in the collection pertain to McDermott's years as CEO of the insurance company, United Services Automobile Association (USAA) until 1993, and his technological developments in the San Antonio, Texas community.
